Lessons from a wet phone
Yesterday I accidentally threw my blackberry in the wash, which happened to be in a pocket. I scrambled to get my old Treo turned on in time for a scheduled call. This morning my blackberry had dried out and is working fine. Takeaways:.
- I couldn’t activate my old phone using skype. The system seemed not to accept the computer numerical entries. How annoying is that and why is that the case?
- I put my blackberry in a bag of rice at someones suggestion, and apparently the rice will draw out the moisture. Not sure if it was the rice or just a day of drying? Kind of a cool science experiment there…you listening nieces and nephews?
- Last night I was taking the train up to TechCocktail, and was at a loss without my blackberry. No email, texting, bbm, WSJ reader, Internet radio. Then again this morning, when my alarm went off, i habitually reached for my bb to check email and check the top news.
- Dependence has changed so much the last ten years. It scares me to think where we will be another ten years from now? Will we ever see a push back from “connected.” I do know the Sheraton Chicago offers to lock up your gadgets during your stay, a detox of sorts. Maybe we should start selling gadget credits similar to a carbon credit. Spouses, parents and kids can buy gadget credits that dis-allow their spouse, child or parent from using gadgets?
