Lessons from a wet phone

Yesterday I accidentally threw my blackberry in the wash, which happened to be in a pocket.  I scrambled to get my old Treo turned on in time for a scheduled call.  This morning my blackberry had dried out and is working fine.  Takeaways:.

  • I couldn’t activate my old phone using skype.  The system seemed not to accept the computer numerical entries.  How annoying is that and why is that the case?
  • I put my blackberry in a bag of rice at someones suggestion, and apparently the rice will draw out the moisture.  Not sure if it was the rice or just a day of drying?  Kind of a cool science experiment there…you listening nieces and nephews?
  • Last night I was taking the train up to TechCocktail, and was at a loss without my blackberry.  No email, texting, bbm, WSJ reader, Internet radio.  Then again this morning, when my alarm went off, i habitually reached for my bb to check email and check the top news.
