Continuing a family tradition…making raisin soup
My cousin Henry and I got together last night to carry on a tradition that our Grandfather carried out every holiday season. The recipe is simple. Every Thanksgiving Granddad would take a Liter of bourbon and mix it with a pound of raisins. The concoction would then be stored next to the furnace and not touched until Christmas eve. Starting on Christmas eve, the soup would be considered aged and at that point could be consumed. He used to drink the raisin soup throughout the Christmas season and winter months in a small glass with a spoon. Our Grandpa passed away when I was less than a year old and prior to Henry being born. That said, it is fun to hear stories and recreate one of his traditions through the holiday season. I hope someone will try their own batch, it is an easy recipe:
1 Liter bourbon mixed with 1 lb of raisins. Store untouched in a warm dark area from Thanksgiving until Christmas eve.
